Parent Information
Our curriculum recognises and celebrates the individuality of each child and what they bring to the learning experience. This early period of learning should be unhurried, allowing time, space and freedom for the developing child to consolidate their learning with opportunities to return, revisit, and refine their emerging knowledge and skills. Central to our curriculum are five key developmental pathways that are fundamental to the learning and development of all young children. These developmental pathways are child-centred and are interdependent, having equal value in supporting overall development and progress. They have been developed to ensure children can be supported to make progress at their own pace and in their preferred learning environment. The five developmental pathways are:
- Belonging
- Communication
- Exploration
- Physical development
- Well-being
Baby Rooms:
Our baby rooms are comprised of two comfortable and spacious play rooms, a cosy sleep and relaxation room and two separate nappy changing areas.
The maximum ratio within our baby room is one member of staff to three babies. Although changes are sometimes inevitable, we aim to keep staff changes to a minimum especially in our baby rooms. We feel it is important for babies to develop within a secure environment with a main core of familiar nursery nurses.
Toddler :
Our toddlers are based on the ground floor of the nursery where they have numerous opportunities to play within our ground floor nursery rooms during the course of the day.
Our toddlers can enjoy a wide range of activities within a variety of environments. Young children are lively, energetic and curious about the world around them. We feel it is more conducive to children’s development to allow movement throughout the nursery, and outdoors, rather than confining each group to one base room.
The maximum ratio within our toddler group is one member of staff to four toddlers with both experienced and qualified Nursery nurse. Poppies is registered as a Flying Start setting, providing funding for up to 12.5 hours per week for two to three year olds.
Preschool:
Our Preschool are also based on the ground floor of the nursery where they have numerous opportunities to play and learn, both indoors and out, following the Non-Maintained Curriculum for Wales. We strive to provide a broad and balanced education for our children to become:
- Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.
- Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work.
- Ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world.
- Healthy, confident individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
The ratio for our Preschool children is one member of staff to eight children.
Poppies is registered as an educational provider with Torfaen LEA. There is educational and Childcare Offer funding available which entitles up to 30 hours of childcare. Please contact us for more information.
